Baby Friendly Training
The WHO and UNICEF call for 100% scale-up of the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative.
Baby Friendly Learning
The Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) assists hospitals in giving mothers the information, confidence, and skills necessary to successfully initiate and continue breastfeeding their babies or safely feed with formula, and gives special recognition to hospitals that have done so. The World Health Organization (WHO) and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) have called for 100% scale-up of the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative and implementation of the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding at every facility providing maternity and newborn services. Maternity nursing staff are required to complete 15 hours of didactic breastfeeding-related training on specific topics outlined by Baby Friendly USA; and Health care providers (physicians, midwives, physician assistants, and advanced practice registered nurses) with privileges for labor, delivery, maternity, and nursery/newborn care are required to complete 3 hours.
