This course is developed and presented by the Texas WIC Program. WIC provides breastfeeding courses to prepare health-care providers to support breastfeeding women and infants. We believe that a positive, proactive approach to breastfeeding promotion and support is achieved through team effort and encourages all health-care workers who work with breastfeeding women and infants to attend.

Objective: Participants will be able to counsel families about the benefits of breastfeeding, assist the mother in managing common breastfeeding problems, make appropriate referrals, teach breastfeeding classes, prepare breastfeeding materials, and support breastfeeding through breastfeeding friendly policies and procedures.

This is a 2-day intensive lecture-based course in lactation principles and meets a portion of the training requirements of Step 2 of the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative, minus the skills portion.

Registration fee includes course materials, continuing education contact hours, a light breakfast and lunch.
