course covers all 7 knowledge areas and 11 chronological
periods of the IBLCE Detailed Content Outline. You’ll
learn to apply concepts and principles to situations that are
commonly encountered on the IBLCE Detailed Content
Outline and in real-life clinical practice. You’ll gain a solid
foundation to prepare for the current exam as well as the
knowledge and skills to deliver the highest-quality evidence-
based care.
This one-of-a-kind course combines in-person seminars
and online study in a flexible learning schedule to meet
everyone’s needs. Before participating in 4 seminar days at
your chosen location, you’ll complete about 60 hours of
homework.
High-speed (not dial-up) Internet access is
required for the homework portions of this program.

Who Should Attend

This is a "learn it the first time course." It is designed for those planning to sit for the IBLCE Exam for the first time. This course meets the IBLCE's requirement for 90 hours of lactation education, covers the material that will be on the IBLCE exam, and prepares the student for a career as an IBCLC. This course is developed and presented by the Texas WIC Program. WIC provides breastfeeding courses to prepare health-care providers to support breastfeeding women and infants. We believe that a positive, proactive approach to breastfeeding promotion and support is achieved through team effort and encourages all health-care workers who work with breastfeeding women and infants to attend.

Objective: Participants will be able to counsel families about the benefits of breastfeeding, assist the mother in managing common breastfeeding problems, make appropriate referrals, teach breastfeeding classes, prepare breastfeeding materials, and support breastfeeding through breastfeeding friendly policies and procedures.

This is a 2-day intensive lecture-based course in lactation principles and meets a portion of the training requirements of Step 2 of the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative, minus the skills portion.

Registration fee includes course materials, continuing education contact hours, a light breakfast and lunch.

While anyone may attend, this class is most suitable for WIC Breastfeeding Coordinators, labor and delivery nurses, postpartum nurses, home visiting nurses and those striving to sit for the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) exam.
