This annual seminar on special topics in lactation is a new addition to the lactation training program at Portland Community College. This year it will cover an overview of complementary and alternative therapies that can be used to support breastfeeding success. This will include the lactation consultant's role and responsibilities when integrating complementary and alternative therapies into lactation support. Attendees will hear from practitioners in chiropractic care, naturopathy, and acupuncture about how these therapies can support the breastfeeding relationship. A panel of breastfeeding families will share their personal experiences with these therapies. Resources for locating complementary and alternative therapy practitioners will be provided. This conference is designed for lactation consultants, health care professionals, breastfeeding peer counselors, and others providing lactation support.
