Additional Information about the Conference

Purpose
This conference is designed to enable participants to learn about milk synthesis, milk supply, the baby’s role in milk supply, how to assist with a non-latching baby, how an infant’s hands naturally assist in breastfeeding, and how to utilize current research to develop strategies to assist mothers and support the breastfeeding relationship.
Objectives

Explore infant feeding difficulties due to anatomical variations of the oral cavity/airway that greatly increase the risk of early weaning and/or failure to thrive, and learn how to help the mother and baby compensate.
Identify breastfeeding tools available to lactation consultants and mothers and review features to determine best use of each tool based on individualized feeding goals.
Evaluate how recent research has revolutionized our understanding of breastfeeding and how research affects how lactation helpers support the mother-baby dyad.
Learn advanced strategies designed to address the issues of the non-latching infant in the hospital or out-patient setting.
Identify the predictable ways an infant’s hands naturally assist during positioning and latch, and learn when a behavior may be modified to improve the baby’s ability to latch.
