Dr. Heinig is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant and an Academic Administrator in the Department of Nutrition at UC Davis where she conducts research in the areas of clinical lactation, education, program evaluation and infant nutrition. Dr. Heinig also serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Human Lactation and is the Executive Director of the UC Davis Human Lactation Center. She has published widely in the scientific literature and is a member of the Internal Lactation Consultant Association, the American Public Health Association, and the International Society for Research in Human Milk and Lactation.

Dr. Schanler is a neonatologist and researcher in neonatal nutrition and breastfeeding. His research focuses on clinical nutrition, especially the effects of human milk in premature infants. He has studied human milk fortifiers, feeding strategies, benefits of human milk, donor human milk, and technical issues in processing milk. Dr. Schanler has more than 200 publications in the field of neonatal nutrition. Dr. Schanler did his training in Pediatrics at the University of Colorado Medical Center in Denver and in Neonatology at Brown University. He is a member of the American Pediatrics Society, Society for Pediatric Research, American Society for Nutrition, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is the Senior Editor of the AAP/ ACOG publication, Breastfeeding Handbook for Physicians. He is a Founding Member
and former President of the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine and a former President of the International Society for Research in Human Milk and Lactation.
