Certified Breastfeeding Counselor Breastfeeding Counselor Target Audience Any RN or LPN: -working with lactating women -interested in obtaining accurate, current information about lactation management -who wants to become a Certified Breastfeeding Counselor (CBC) -preparing to become a board certified lactation consultant Certification Requirements -Must be a RN or LPN -Complete written assignment (2 one-page essays are assigned at registration) -Attend 2 day PCE course -Pass certification examination based on the information covered in the course Certified Lactation Specialist Course The Certified Lactation Specialist Course is designed for the aspiring lactation consultant or nurses, physicians, midwives, dieticians, breastfeeding assistants or others desirous of improving their knowledge base and skills in working with the breastfeeding dyad. All areas included on the IBLCE exam are addressed. The 5 day course provides the needed number of continuing education in lactation to qualify to sit for the IBLCE exam. Day One History of Breastfeeding: Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative Promotion of breastfeeding, teaching classes and addressing myths Professional Education in Breastfeeding and Lactation A Six Day Course: June 21st-23rd and 25th-27th Recommended for: * Individual who wants basic preparation for becoming a board-certified lactation consultant * IBCLC requiring CERPS or exam preparation for re-certification * Maternity or pediatric nurse working with families with small babies * Obstetrician, midwife, pediatrician or family medicine physician involved with the daily feeding and parenting issues of new families * Childbirth educator * Labor and postpartum doula * WIC clinic staff member * Facilitator of early parenting education * Social worker, Early Headstart staff The Lactation Counselor Certificate Training Program (CLC) Comprehensive breastfeeding management training Practical skills that will make you more effective in your job Time-saving hospital strategies that make breastfeeding a success Strategies and tips for special circumstances - premies, Down Syndrome, newborns affected by medications, and more How to talk to mothers in a way that encourages them to choose breastfeeding Public Health/WIC strategies that work to increase breastfeeding success Confidence building knowledge and skills
