The thirteenth annual “Breastfeeding: The Gold Standard” conference is an opportunity to learn the latest evidence-based practices in the field of lactation. This outstanding conference will be held at the Hampton Inn & Suites, Convention Center Blvd, New Orleans, Louisiana and provides two and one half days of excellent presentations. This conference will provide the multidisciplinary perinatal team with research and evidence to inspire them to examine their current practice and consider change that will promote best practice in caring for the opioid-addicted patient, the patient in second stage of labor and the breastfeeding couplet.

Learn about the physiology of bilirubin metabolism with an update on how to manage breastfeeding and jaundice.
Describe the benefits to neonatal and breast milk jaundice.
Identify two phases of the second stage of labor.
Describe maternal and fetal factors that influence fetal descent.

The Upper Arkansas Area Council of Governments and the WIC Program are hosting a Conference to promote Breastfeeding. This Conference will be held at the Abbey in Canon City on April 15, 2010.

Featured speakers include:
Marianne Neifert, M.D. (Dr. Mom) and Maya Bunik, M.D., MSPH.

Dr. Neifert, a pediatrician who is known nationally as Dr. Mom, is an acclaimed motivational speaker who addresses topics on life balance, positive parenting, and breastfeeding. She has authored the newly released Great Expectations: The Essential Guide to Breastfeeding.

This conference will focus on two frequently encountered healthcare challenges - The Slow to Gain Breastfeeding Infant: Intake or Supply? and The Late Preterm Infant: Achieving the Best Outcomes. An entire day will be devoted to each topic, and we will look in detail at the most helpful and successful ways to care for these mothers and their infants.
